Tweet Button Reset To Zero

When we changed our blog’s URL structure all the counts on our “tweet” buttons got reset to zero.
Changin the URL structure on your blog is a painful process but
we decided it was a necessary change for the greater good! Unfortunately there is no work around the fact that you’ll lose your tweet counts displayed by the Tweetmeme button since the script counts the tweets based on the permalink URLs. Once the permalink structure changes, it’s basically like if you had completely new posts and pages all together, even if you have permanent re-directions setup properly.
Thanks to all of you who retweeted our awesome posts, we had nice counts on our buttons and I felt like that was adding something positive to our blog. So at first I was bummed and even started considering reverting to the old URL structure…
But then I realized that after all it doesn’t really matter to us to display (or brag about) how many people tweeted an article. We just want to give people the option to share our content on major social networks. So why do we even need a Tweetmeme button? It’s actually pretty intrusive on the page and it also makes the pages load significantly slower.
So I removed this feature from our blog and replaced it with a simple Twitter button. Now our blog pages load fast again and it’s as easy as before to share our content – if not easier! To me that’s another example where less features is much better.
