New York Web Design Company Going Green

Web design greenWeb design is an industry that may not generate as much pollution as some other fields. However, since its inception, Noam Design has made continuous efforts to be a role model eco-friendly company, reusing material (such as bags), reducing waist, recycling, and more. All of our computers are Energy Star compliant, all of our paper is made out of 100% recycled paper, we use reusable mugs and ceramic cups instead of plastic cups, the furniture we use is environment friendly, etc. We try to make our offices and practices as friendly as possible for the planet.

We at Noam Design believe that U.S. businesses must play a key role in the protection of the environement. We have joined other environmental leaders in contributing to effective strategies for combating climate change and other effects of pollution.

From the very beginning, our team has been an eclectic mix of personalities and different backgrounds. But we all share a deep respect for the world outside of the virtual marketplace that we work in. And now, more than ever, we are concerned about the planet that we live in and what we can do to ensure a clean and beautiful future for the next generations.  Already having a strict attitude from the onset, Noam Design has decided to do more and to encourage our clients, partners, and competitors to do the same. Web Design For Internet Explorer 8

web design IE8Hello everyone!

For those of you who don’t know, Internet Explorer 8.0 RC1 (Release Candidate – almost a final version) is now available and can be downloaded here(be careful to not install it on your working machine but on a virtual one ;) ).

This is good news for all web designers and developers because IE8 is announced to be (for the very first time) a standard-oriented browser!

But (there is always a but) in case it won’t be as “standard-oriented” as Firefox is, Microsoft implemented two modes to render web pages: a “standard” mode and a “IE7″ mode. By default, all pages will be rendered with the “standard” renderer, but if you want you can add a specific META tag that will tell the browser to render your pages with the “IE7 renderer”! That way you won’t have to make any additional changes to your design code.

Here’s the META tag:

<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7"/>

You can find more information here (take a look at the developers section).

Enjoy! (or not )

Web Design Ideas

web design ideasWeb design is a field that attracts many creative minds. But ideas represent only a fraction of all the factors that make a business successful… My position here at Noam Design involves scoping out clients’ projects to see if they could be a good fit for our company’s skills – from website design and development, through SEO, web promotion, web marketing, and business strategy. So I am in touch with hundreds of clients who contact us every month, and for the past 2 years I have heard it all! More than once we have been contacted to create a professional Ecommerce website with only a $2000 or $3000 budget! And not to mention how many times I have been asked to sign an extensive Non Disclosure Agreement before the clients would “reveal” the nature of their “innovative” project. That project being building a new Craigslist, combined with the features of MySpace, YouTube , and eBay – with a budget of only a few thousand dollars. As you can see, such information is highly sensitive and needs to be protected by a strict NDA! Though this type of scenario is very typical, it is not always the case and there are sometimes some truly innovative ideas that are worth considering. (more…)

Design a website search engine

web design search

For web designers, it can be very helpful to be able to offer a powerful search tool that can easily and quickly be implemented on a website. Here is good and simple way – tailored to your needs and powered by Google

Designed or own a website or collection of websites you’d like to search over?

With Custom Search Engine, you can harness the power of Google to create a search engine tailored to your websites needs. A Custom Search Engine is a tailored search experience, built using Google’s core search technology, that prioritizes or restricts search results based on websites and pages you specify. Your Custom Search Engine can be tailored to reflect your point of view or area of expertise. With a Custom Search Engine, you can:

From a Start-up Concept to a Cutting Edge Web App

unclip web designGreat news here at Noam Design: www.unclip.com has arrived! Unclip is a coupon code website that offers thousands discount coupon codes and promotions for hundreds of on-line stores.  As Unclip.com grows, more and more coupons and stores are being added. So unclip.com is a unique website where all the discount codes and coupons available across the internet can be found, searched, and used. Talk about enhancing our online shopping experience!

I highly recommend viewing the project’s case. Unclip is a unique website project and we developed new ways of designing a complex web applications.

Navigating the site is intuitive and browsing Unclip.com’s for discounts/promotions for specific stores or categories is easy.  With the powerful search function, you can search across the entire database for stores/coupons/promotions that match your criteria.

Another great feature of Unclip.com is the Firefox Extension.  When users install the Firefox Extension, a toolbar button is added to their Firefox browser.  Users will be alerted when they visit an on-line store that Unclip.com has coupons for.  Clicking on the toolbar button will display Unclip.com’s top three coupons for the on-line store that they are currently browsing.  From there, the user can choose to visit Unclip.com to view that store’s coupons in more detail.

The website also offers the ability to copy a store’s coupon code into the user’s clipboard. The user is then directed to open that store’s website where he/she can paste the coupon code into the appropriate section. Try it for yourself – it’s much easier to use the site than to explain how it works! (more…)

New Website Design for NY Designer Anya Caliendo

anyacaliendo web designWe are pleased to announce the launch of one of our most recently completed Flash projects: www.AnyaCaliendo.com. The site features Anya Caliendo, who is a high-end fashion hat designer based in New York City, and her latest line of millinery hats.

When Anya approached us with this project, she was looking for a design that was especially sophisticated, clean, and that is interactive. On the surface, the concepts of interactivity and simplicity may seem to oppose each other. So we put our heads together and brainstormed to accomplish a good balance between the two ideas. I think all of us here found that it was a pleasure working with Anya, but as the Flash Expert working on the site, I found it particularly enjoyable because her designs are really beautiful.

Working on this website once again reminded us why we love to do what we do. If you’re interested, you can visit the website here.

A New Web Design Trend

Web Design NewHere, at Noam Design, we are constantly contributing to the web design world community and we’ve often pioneered new practices and innovative concepts within the industry. What we call ‘Load Sequencing’ and ‘Content Flushing’ are two ways to tremendously enhance the user experience for websites and web applications that are rich in design and/or features. These concepts allow for the almost instantaneous fetching of web content to the user, while other elements of the website or web application are seamlessly loading.

What is it all about?

In today’s internet browsing experience, there is nothing more frustrating and outdated than waiting for a web page to load.  We believe that when you go to a website, you shouldn’t have to wait for the site’s content to load, but rather you should be able to view relevant content right away – or at least be entertained while the main content of the page is loading. In other words, some web content should be fetched to the user immediately. For simple, light weight websites, the question may not be as critical. But for websites and web applications that are rich in features and/or design, it’s of the utmost importance. Especially given that more than 80% of all internet use is spent on rich web applications! Web based emailing and chatting, social networking, and video browsing, etc are just a few examples. (more…)
