I’m moving on to new projects

I’m very happy to announce that Commative has taken over my Ecommerce line of products last week. Ultimento, Magentist, and Magento Expert are in great hands!

My other projects are now for sale as well so feel free to reach out if you think you might be interested.

Follow my new personal Twitter account @noamkerner and stay tuned with my future adventures!

Our traffic and sales data

For the past few years, our main of focus has been on our Ecommerce line of products which consists of Ultimento, Magentist, and Magento Expert.

All 3 sites provide products and services for the popular Magento Ecommerce platform and I thought it’d be interested to share some of our traffic and sales data and the trend they show over the past 7 months.

30,000 unique monthly visitors across the sites + continued growth:

Big monthly income across the network + continued growth:

Income Data

Though July is often considered a “low season” month for most businesses, our traffic and profit data continue to show the same steep growth. With the recent release of Ultimento 2.0 the future is looking brighter than ever and profits are continuing to rise steeply.

This data reinforces what I wrote recently about Magento’s growth (since the acquisition by eBay) ;) . Also take a look at the Google Trends graph for Magento vs Ecommerce (note the recent growth since May):

I hope someone finds these interesting!

Don’t talk your project to death

I talked in the past about how ideas are worthless (it’s the execution that matters).

I also shared how at the time Noam Design was a web design company we got so many inquires from people with “great ideas” who never do anything with them (not to mention the guys who want to sign an NDA).

More recently I’ve talked about how “innovative” ideas are usually just more of the same.

Don’t talk it to death. Just do it.

Now do yourself a favor – if you have an idea or a project or something you want to do in life, please – don’t talk it to death. Just do it. (more…)

Website Temple and Template Action deserve a better home. Make an offer.

I think Website Temple and Template Action deserve to thrive, but Noam Design is not the best home for them right now. So I’m looking to sell them to a company that can give them the love and attention they deserve. Think you might be interested? Get all the details »

An alternative to organization and planning

One of the main things I’ve come to realize about getting things done and optimizing my creativity is that organization doesn’t help. To the contrary – it kinda gets in the way. You get so focused on keeping track of everything and being on top of your projects that you lose the flexibility and “looseness” that’s necessary for creativity to flow. You’ve got to let go of the illusion that you’re in control and embrace the uncertainty that’s part of any project in life.

Same with planning. Planning really is guessing and it’s totally useless. Like organization, planning kills creativity, motivation, and productivity. (more…)

Why Would A Great Team Work For Cheap?

Every time you’re considering working with anyone on a project, ask yourself “why would this person work for cheap?” It is particularly true when it comes to web design and web development and this is something I tell pretty much anyone that inquires about working with us.

You’ll be able to find cheaper companies to work with. But you won’t be able to get the same value. Every dollar you invest here at Noam Design will yield an unbeatable value for your project.

You have a limited budget? Reduce the project’s scope. But don’t try to get everything done under your budget because in the end that’s the more costly road! Instead, reduce the project’s features and be more flexible about the creative process. Brainstorm with your project manager on what can be achieved within your budget. But don’t shop around for the team that’d give you everything on earth within the smallest budget.

Where you can save costs is being smart about using resources. That’s why we created Template Action – you can download a template and setup an award winning website at a ridiculous price. And you can get such a great value because we don’t have to deal with pre-sales discussions, back and forth emails and phone calls during the creative process, time spent in meetings, etc. We created great websites you can easily manage and edit – if you like one of them you can purchase it for less than what a single consultation would cost you. It’s that simple.

Any Web Design Project Has A Debugging Phase

DebuggingDebugging is a normal part of web design and development. What’s unclear about that? Web developers don’t “create bugs”, or “make mistakes”. It’s just the way it goes. I’ll explain more about that below but for now consider this simple analogy:

When you write a book or a paper – you don’t expect the publisher to publish your first submission, do you? Your copy will go through series of edits, corrections, error fixing, rephrasing, rearranging, proof reading, etc… Often this phase can take longer than the time it originally took you to write the paper or book itself! That’s the way it goes. (more…)

Why You Should Keep Your Team Small

Scaling DownWith 2009 coming to an end, I wanted to spend a few minutes looking back at some of the things that had a positive impact on our company this year. Scaling down ended up at the very top of my list.

One of the biggest mistakes I’ve made developing our company and growing the business is scaling up for the sake of scaling up. In the beginning of the year, we had a team of more than 15 people working on countless projects, both client projects and internal projects. There was a lot of activity, a lot of business, and in general a lot of things happening. It certainly meant bigger revenues, but definitely not bigger profits or better results. A lot of time, energy, and resources were wasted in management, administrative duties, meetings, supervision, client relations etc. (more…)
