Don’t talk your project to death

I talked in the past about how ideas are worthless (it’s the execution that matters).

I also shared how at the time Noam Design was a web design company we got so many inquires from people with “great ideas” who never do anything with them (not to mention the guys who want to sign an NDA).

More recently I’ve talked about how “innovative” ideas are usually just more of the same.

Don’t talk it to death. Just do it.

Now do yourself a favor – if you have an idea or a project or something you want to do in life, please – don’t talk it to death. Just do it. (more…)

Make Your Business Matter To Someone

Wanting to start a business that will provide everything you can possibly imagine in a given field is bound to failure. Don’t try to be everything to everybody. That won’t work. But if you can just offer one thing relevant to a small group of people – then you have the base to succeed.

One of the most common mistakes I hear all the time is wanting to build an “all inclusive” type of business.

What’s really interesting to me is to see the exact same misconceptions and mistakes so widely spread. Literally anyone who ever talked to me about starting a new business has had a similar approach. No wonder most businesses fail within the first year!

I also always hear the same examples: Amazon, Google, or some other giant! You can’t start a business trying to mimic companies that have matured over 10 years and became huge because of a myriad of reasons. (more…)

Bad Ideas Unleash Creativity

Make the jumpWhen brainstorming in a group, people are often afraid to express their take on something because they’re feeling insecure that maybe their idea is not so good. They’re afraid to look bad and that people will think their input is plain useless. So they refrain from “making the jump”.

The thing is that bad ideas are great for unleashing your creative juice! When people are not afraid to look stupid and just bring everything that comes to mind it opens up new channels and helps you think in new and creative ways. (more…)

Don’t Worry Too Much About Being First

Entrepreneurs RushMany entrepreneurs are convinced their idea or concept is unique and they think they are tapping into a virgin market. Then they worry about being able to implement their idea as quickly as possible, because they fear that someone else might potentially beat them at launching this type of business first. As a result, many business developers are rushing the execution of their concept (while not being willing to reduce the amount of useless features that “must” come with it) and they end up with a half-assed product that isn’t clean, doesn’t work well, and is bloated with unnecessary features. Ideas Are Worthless

Ideas Are WorthlessIdeas are worthless. It’s the implementation that can make a difference. An idea can either be worth nothing or a lot. What you need is a great production team, because it’s all about how you develop your idea into a concrete venture. How you implement an idea or a concept is what really matters. (more…)

I Recently Saw This Flyer Posted…

Personal Assistant AdI recently saw this flyer posted in my neighborhood and found it interesting. The advertiser is very clear about what he is offering, who he is targeting, and how much he charges. After looking at the flyer, you know right away whether or not this is something that you are looking for. For potential clients, this clarity is a great benefit, as for the advertiser he saves time by not having to deal with irrelevant inquiries.

The design of the ad is also very clear and it conveys a clear message. While offering a variety of services, Sean is not offering everything possible in the field of personal assistance – he focused on people who are “busy professionals” looking for a part-time personal assistant, people who need help taking care of a wide variety of tasks. I think there is a great market for this type of services and when narrowing your target population intelligently like Sean does, you can reach a field that is relatively free of competition.

Why not start up a web 2.0 service were busy people can sign up and (more…)

4 Unusual Ways To Get Inspiration

IdeasI often get asked questions such as “how did you come up with this idea” or “what made you think of this concept”. The thing is that different people have different personalities and are good at different things. Personally, I have ideas all the time – way too many ideas! I don’t sit down thinking or trying to come up with ideas – but I think I am the most productive at coming up with concepts when I… (more…)
