Web Design Decision For Website Temple Home Page

I’ve been playing around with the design of Website Temple’s home page, and I thought it’d be interesting to share a few of the variations I came up with for the design of the main Flash element.

I am not looking for a brand new design so the variations are just slightly different. I am looking to see which version will increase the site’s retention rate and conversion rate. Which design do you think will perform best? (more…)

Designing Good Websites

Designing Good WebsitesOver the past decade I have seen thousands of websites all across the internet and often wonder why some stood out more than others. It’s not always some artist pumping out brilliant graphics, nor is it informative content, but a combination of elements working together. Here’s a list of elements I personally think truly make websites stand out but also make them look good:

Layout

It’s important to have a very good layout that’s very easy to follow but also consistent throughout the website. There are many occasions where for example designers hide their navigation in unreasonable ways only because it may improve their overall design. It seems like many designers don’t understand that the majority of people online aren’t as savvy as they are, so following design trends which may appeal to one group may not to another. (more…)

A New Web Design Gallery

Web Design GalleryOur web design company has done it again! We’re pleased to announce the launch of a new project: The Web Design Gallery

When you’re in the web design business, you run across many impressive sites built by talented web designers. Naturally, it was only a matter of time before we started a web design gallery collection of our own. Many websites were already added, feel free to do the same to show case your web design work and submit your favorite web design! While you browse through the web design gallery, you may vote and comment on any of the designs listed. When voting, please keep the web design category in mind. Depending on the website’s purpose the design rules are very different. For example: an E-commerce site might not be the most artful, but the quality of the user interface and clear visual communication would make it a superior website in its own niche. A personal portfolio site would have different web design criteria. (more…)

Web Designers Resource – Free Vector Graphics

Hey Everyone,

Found some free vector graphics.  Just thought I would share!

Web Design Company Portfolio

As a web design company, we are commited to showing our work to the world and to keep our web design portfolio up to date. So we regularly update the 6 main categories of websites featured on our web design portfolio:

  1. Business website design
  2. Social networking website design
  3. Ecommerece website design
  4. Flash website design
  5. XHTML/CSS website design
  6. Advanced web application design

As we update our web design portfolio pages, we archive all our past web design projects on our all web design projects page which includes thousands of completed projects. We also have a design work web page focusing more on the graphic design aspect of web design.

But we have been extremely busy lately and haven’t had the time to keep up with the quantity of web design work we develop for our clients. In a way, if a web design company‘s website is not up to date with their work – it might be a good sign that they are busy working with clients as this is the case for us. Our goal is to ensure that we continue to provide the highest levels of strategy, execution and client service – and not to polish our own website over and over (though this is important too so a good balance is key to maximize our ROI)… (more…)

Designers Community Website

cgsocietyCGsocietyis one of my favorite sites for digital art is. There’s lots of professional CG artists who show off their work on this site (portfolio section), and the forum (CGTalk- which is free and doesn’t require membership to use) hosts friendly competitions for matte painting (photoshop), 3D modeling, lighting & texturing, and rigging. There are helpful topics for the major graphics applications (photoshop, after effects, autoCAD, 3dmax, maya, zbrush, mudbox,etc..). The site also offers advanced on-line courses (for a fee). Anyone interested in computer graphics will love this site, and those interested in learning new techniques will find a wealth of information on the forums.

I’m trying to get a NY CGsociety chapter formed, but it doesn’t look like there’s enough people (most CGSociety members are in Australia).

cheers!

Screen Resolution Statistics

Web StatisticsScreen resolution statistics are very important. When designing a website, it is a good idea for a web designer to make the design fit within a 1024px screen width (so about 1000px for the actual site design). Below are the latest known screen resolution statistics (US & Canada). What you can read from the web statistics below is that the big majority of users are using a display with 1024 pixels or more.
