Screen resolution statistics are very important. When designing a website, it is a good idea for a web designer to make the design fit within a 1024px screen width (so about 1000px for the actual site design). Below are the latest known screen resolution statistics (US & Canada). What you can read from the web statistics below is that the big majority of users are using a display with 1024 pixels or more.
| 1440px or more |
1280px | 1024px | 800px | Other |
| 27% | 30% | 26% | 6% | 11% |
Use Responsibly – Statistics Are Often Misleading
You cannot – as a web designer- rely only on statistics. Web Statistics can often be misleading.
Global averages may not always be relevant to your web site. Different sites attract different audiences. Some web sites attract professional designers using professional hardware, while other sites attract the ‘average Joe’ using old low spec computers.
Additional Important Web Statistics:
Browser Statistics – you’ll be surprised!
JavaScript and Flash Statistics – JavaScript is a scripting language widely used for client-side web development and Flash is a popular method for adding animation and interactivity to web, as well as developing rich internet applications.
Operating System Statistics – the windows family counts for over 90% of all operating systems
