Exercise For Creativity
Working long hours in front of a computer can become stressful and monotonous after a while. Not only is it detrimental to your body but it can hinder your creativity. As a designer, having a fresh batch of creativity is very important.
According to the U.S. Surgeon General’s report on physical activity, exercise can improve mood and performance. Numerous studies have been conducted throughout the years that connect exercise to improved mental ability as well as better productivity in the workplace.
Many businesses are catching on and implementing wellness programs. Whether your company supports such programs or not you should do your part to get some exercise. Sometimes all that is needed is a brisk walk during your lunch hour. Maybe you even have time to go to the gym before heading back to the office.
Going for a walk or the gym during your lunch hour not only gets you out of the office and moving but will help clear your mind and get the creative juices flowing. Exercise helps with stress management, productivity and improves performance.
People who exercise also tend to get better sleep at night. All of these benefits are ideal for designers and artists alike who need a fully functioning mind to produce new and innovative ideas. And if that is not enough to convince you then think of how happy your neck and back will be when they are able to stretch out.
So get out there and get moving!
You nailed some great points about increasing productivity, focus, creativity, and improving mood.
If I hit a writers block I just need to go for a walk, bike ride, or quick workout and my creative juices get flowing once again.
Many people think that they don’t have time to exercise, but the reality is that exercise will actually give you more time because you will be able to get more done in less time during your working hours due to your increased productivity, focus, and energy. You’ll notice an improvement in the quality of work that you produce as well.
Thank you for stepping up to the plate and promoting a healthy active lifestyle. Us desk jockey’s need all the encouragement to pull us away from the computer to get moving.
