DebuggingDebugging is a normal part of web design and development. What’s unclear about that? Web developers don’t “create bugs”, or “make mistakes”. It’s just the way it goes. I’ll explain more about that below but for now consider this simple analogy:

When you write a book or a paper – you don’t expect the publisher to publish your first submission, do you? Your copy will go through series of edits, corrections, error fixing, rephrasing, rearranging, proof reading, etc… Often this phase can take longer than the time it originally took you to write the paper or book itself! That’s the way it goes.

Now to understand the difference between printing a book and launching a website or web application, you have to understand that there are many more variables in the field of web design than there are in book publishing. You have to worry about cross browser compatibility, cross platform compatibility, differences between production environment and development environment, and much more! Do your users have JavaScript enabled on their browsers? What if they don’t? Do they have Flash – which version? Which internet browser are they using? On a Mac or a PC? What’s the browser version? What’s their screen resolution? What’s the browser window size? What if they use their Mobile device? Which one? You get the picture.
